Switching to TSB: how the switch works

Important: This guide provides general information, not personalised financial advice. Financial products, rates and eligibility rules can change, so check the provider’s current terms before applying. You can check a firm’s details on the FCA Register.

FSCS protects eligible deposits up to £120,000 per person, per authorised institution.

Quick answer

Open a TSB current account first, then start the switch online or in the app. TSB completes a full switch in seven working days under the Current Account Switch Guarantee, moving your balance, payees, Direct Debits, standing orders and incoming payments, and redirecting anything sent to your old account.

We didn’t see a current TSB switching offer as of 4 October 2026; its page links only to previous offers.

Who it’s for

  • People who want a branch-backed bank and plan to use the debit card for the £5 monthly cashback
  • Anyone happy for the old account to close in a full switch

Who should skip it

These are general points to weigh up, not advice. You may want to look elsewhere if:

  • You want a switch bonus — see our switch bonus table
  • You rely on an overdraft — it doesn’t move; apply to TSB separately first

The catch

Card payments set up with your old debit card (subscriptions, streaming) don’t move. You’ll need to give those companies your new card details, and update Apple Pay or Google Pay yourself.

What moves and what doesn’t

  • Moves: balance, payees, Direct Debits, standing orders, salary, pension and benefit payments, plus a redirect from your old account
  • Doesn’t move: arranged overdrafts, debit-card payments, mobile wallets and third-party access

Read TSB’s switching page before you start.

These go straight to each provider’s own website. They aren’t referral links and we don’t earn from them.

FAQs

How long does switching to TSB take?

Seven working days, guaranteed under the Current Account Switch Service.

Can I keep using my old account during the switch?

TSB says you can use it up to day six, but new payments set up during the switch won’t transfer.

Does TSB pay me to switch?

Not as of 4 October 2026, as far as we could see.

Will my overdraft move to TSB?

No. You need to apply for a new arranged overdraft with TSB.
